Where is Jagua? We didn’t know either until April 2017. As part of our ministry we come alongside the local pastors serving and supporting them in various ways including evangelism, outreach, discipleship and church planting. We know that God did not bring us to Honduras for Greg to pastor a church. There are many qualified men already here that God has called to pastor and lead congregations.

Pastor Emilio is the pastor of our home church here in La Campa.  He has mentoring and leadership responsibility for seven other pastors and is known by others throughout the Department (state) of Lempira. Jagua and Pastor Claudio are not under his authority but they have known each other for many years. Pastor Emilio invited us to visit Jagua to meet Pastor Claudio and hear his story.

Bottom line, Pastor Claudio’s church has been established for years and the growth supported the need for an expansion. In June 2017, with the support of Crossroads Church Douglasville, they and the local congregation worked together to get the foundation, walls, floor, and roof built. While construction was going on, Greg, Jean and other team members visited in Jagua and three other surrounding communities delivering in home single point water filters and buckets while other team members served in the schools sharing the love of Christ through Bible stories and science projects.

We are so blessed with dear friends. In 2017 a longtime friend of 30+ years and her husband wanted to visit us to explore the possibility of leading a short term team to Honduras to join in the work God is doing here. The four of us met with Pastor Claudio and visited several families in the community that just needed to be loved on and know that others care for them. At the end of their 2017 trip we believed God was leading them to return with a team in 2018. We all agreed to pray for God to reveal His plan. Our friends, Joel and Wilna, along with ten other members from Memorial Baptist Church/Bell Baptist Assoc Texas returned to Honduras in June 2018 and spent four days in Jagua teaching the good news to the children of Jagua and the three surrounding communities.

As an added special blessing we were invited to the church dedication celebration which was scheduled while the TX team was here. Wow, what a celebration! People came from near and far. The church was packed to overflowing with many gathered around the windows and doors for this special time of worship.

Another team was scheduled to serve in Jagua in July. However, due to circumstances out of their control, this team had to postpone their trip until February 2019. We are trusting God for the reasons why the trip was postponed and believe the change to be His timing. Until then we continue to seek God’s direction as to how to continue to serve and support Pastor Claudio and disciple the children with an ongoing teaching plan.

In addition to a children’s Bible teaching program there are other ways to serve with school supplies sponsorship, youth events, evangelism and adult Bible study programs. Please prayerfully ask God if He is leading you to adopt Jagua.  Also, please pray for us as we continue to serve.
