Our journey to La Campa, Honduras began in 2009 when we took our first short term mission trip as team leaders from First Baptist Church Atlanta. We had been on three mission trips to two different countries prior to 2009, but every country is different, so we didn’t know exactly what to expect. By the end of our first trip here we knew we wanted to return although we had no idea at that time that we would eventually be living here permanently.
That was, at least, until 2012 when things began to become more clear. We were here with a mission team and we each began to sense during that trip that big changes were coming in our lives. Once we shared with each other what we had experienced we began to believe that we were going to be able to spend more time in Honduras. But even then we weren’t absolutely sure of what exactly that meant. After this there were more trips to explore and the more we explored Honduras the more we discovered that we really wanted to live here.
Once we realized that God indeed had a purpose and a plan for us to serve in Honduras we joined Frontline Missions (serving with them until March 2018). We had served with them on short term mission trips since 2008 so it was a natural and smooth transition for us. Then in 2013 we purchased a piece of land in La Campa and began building our home. Moving day finally came in May of 2015. We traveled to Honduras with our two suitcases and backpacks each. The team we came down with also checked six trunks of personal belongings for us. With those few possessions, our pick up truck, and a house not quite completed we began the adventure in Honduras.
God has been so faithful to us since then allowing us to become legal residents of Honduras, helping us to build many great personal and ministry relationships, co-founding two nonprofit ministries in 2018 and 2019, FHD Honduras and FHD Missions, our stateside 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit ministry. Through all of the changes and growth He has been with us every step of the way. And because of His promise to never leave us or forsake us we know that He will always be with us. It is hard to believe how much has happened in the months and years since we got here and we are very excited for the future. God has given us so many opportunities to serve Him by serving others. We invite you to learn more about what He is doing by browsing this website, visiting www.fhdhonduras.org, and we would ask that you prayerfully consider joining Him, and us, in the work because the work is plentiful but the laborers are few.
