Ministry
We are serving in the southwest mountains of Honduras. Many people in this area are descended from the Lenca people group but there is a mixture of other Honduran peoples as well. The Lenca are the largest indigenous people group in Honduras, however, they have almost completely adopted Spanish culture.
From the beginning our ministry has been to work in partnership with existing pastors and their churches to help equip and encourage them for greater ministry. We have discovered that the combination of ideas and experience from here and where we are from bring about the best strategies and results in ministry.
Our primary ministry goals and activities can be summed up in these 5 Categories:
- Outreach
- Family Crisis Care
- Community Development
- Church Planting
- Teaching & Discipleship
Core Values
The Bible is our primary guide for life and ministry; it has helped shape our core values from which we serve:
- Community engagement is central to all our work.
- We encourage and facilitate growth of mind, body, and spirit for individuals and families in the rural communities we serve.
- In all our relationships we are committed to operating with integrity, transparency, and accountability.
- We strive for excellence in everything that we do.
- We regard people, communities, culture, and beliefs with respect and dignity.
What We Believe
We believe that the Bible, in its entirety, is the perfect Word of God. We believe that God created the universe and that man and woman were created in His image. We were created to live in perfect fellowship with Him and each other. By choice man allowed sin to enter into God’s perfect creation ushering in death and causing all of our relationships to become broken.
Ever since then we have been separated from God. God knew this was going to happen so from the beginning He had His plan in place to make reconciliation possible. And it is a strange plan indeed. Even though we committed the offense He made the sacrifice in order for us, the offenders, to be reconciled to Him.
He sent His Son Jesus to earth to live among us. Jesus was completely man and completely God at the same time. It is hard to believe that He could be both at the same time but He was. The God of the Bible is a supernatural God, nothing is impossible for Him. Jesus lived a sinless life, willingly went to the cross to suffer and die to pay the price for us.
You see, God is a loving God but He is a just God. Like a good parent He must punish us for the wrong things we do. Good parents don’t punish their children because they don’t love them; quite the opposite actually. And so it is with God, He loves us but somebody has to pay the penalty. God took it upon himself to cancel the debt we couldn’t pay through His Son.
After Jesus died on the cross He was buried, resurrected from the dead three days later, and returned to the Father several weeks later after numerous public appearances. None of this was done secretly. He promises that He will likewise return one day. Hard to believe right? Yes, but the God who has the power to create the universe simply by speaking it into existence has the power to do other things that are equally hard to believe.
So the problem isn’t that there isn’t a way to be reconciled to the Father. The problem for many is that there is only one way and that it can’t be bought or earned. Reconciliation is a free gift offered to everyone that simply has to be accepted by faith. As humans we want to punch our own tickets by our efforts but that is not possible in this case. We can never do enough good things to offset the wrong things and earn our way in.
The God of the Bible loves us so much that He reached down from Heaven to us through Jesus. Every other religion says that we have to strive, climb, reach up, get ourselves up to where their god is but not the God of the Bible. He has made the effort to come to us. All we have to do is believe what the Bible says about Jesus and what He did for us. Then we have to confess our sin to God and ask for forgiveness.
Imagine this-God loves and respects us so much that He does not force or manipulate anyone into accepting His free gift. It is every person’s choice to make freely. Because God extends this kind of freedom we do too in our ministry. All we do is present the information and ask the question. The decision is yours.
The Bible says that all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. God made it simple. So what will you do? Will you call on Him? We hope you will if you haven’t already.
